Sisters See Sisters
Dear readers, as you (might but probably don't) remember, when I got sick last summer, I spent basically the whole time watching Parks and Rec. This is because Parks and Rec is amazing and I love Amy Poehler so much. Additionally, I am deeply and undyingly devoted to Tina Fey, and I read Bossypants whenever I feel down. Finally, I love that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are best friends in real life because they are both smart and funny and awesome women, and the idea of them hanging out could only make me happier if I got to come along too.
This meant that I was both excited and nervous to see Sisters. On one hand, Tina and Amy! On the other hand, oh Lord, what if it was terrible? The reviews were not especially encouraging. However, devoted fans that we are, the sisters three made a date to see Sisters this past Saturday night.
And you know what? It was not nearly as smart as either of their TV shows, but I thought it was hilarious, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Additionally, it was even more fun to see it with my sisters. And when I was in the bathroom after the movie, I heard some women saying, "Mom and dad would kill us if we tried to pull something like that!" So there were others who had the same idea.
Let's talk about my outfit for a minute. This shirt is yet another "party the back" shirt, although the front isn't so business. (See: the contrasting pocket.) I LOVE it. I love the contrasting stripes and colors, and that the red part is stretchy and the back is structured. I look forward to wearing it a lot when it stops being cold.
Also, after three years of searching, I finally found a pair of boots I like with my jeans tucked in. They are super comfortable and I found them on clearance. I orginally envisioned just wearing them with pants, but I've been wearing them with skirts too. I like feeling moto-tough. Because nothing says tough guy like getting a PhD in Talmud, right?
What I'm wearing: Downeast Basics top (similar here), LOFT jeans, Diba boots (on clearance here, 50% off in store.)

The Blog Hits Nepal: How to Become an International Celebrity
Back to Pokhara! Pokhara is a popular destination for trekkers because it's near the foothills of the Himalayas. Therefore, we decided to get up early to watch the sun rise, hopefully with a view of the mountains.
Well... we got the beautiful sunrise! The mountains, not so much-- they didn't come out until later. In the meantime, I did some early morning stretching:
The sun was amazing that morning. A bright pink/ red, over the blue mountains and green trees. It's hard to capture the full experience, but here is a small taste:
Later that day, we went to the International Mountaineering Museum, dedicated to the story of the Himalayas and the people who have climbed them. The museum was really interesting, reflecting on the tribes of Nepal, the geology that led to the formation of the mountains, the role of climate change, and the history of the great mountaineers. And then, while we were waiting to leave, all of the sudden...
Everyone wanted to take a picture with us! It was weird. (This happened many other places also.) Apparently in Nepal, pasty skin and curly hair is exotic. All I had to do was go across the world! It only seemed fair that I should be a tourist attraction, seeing as I was a major tourist for two full weeks. But the whole picture taking thing never stopped being hilarious.
And just to reassure you, we did see the Himalayas later that day. And yes, they were even more spectacular than promised.
What I'm wearing: Boden hoodie (out of stock), Look Human t-shirt, Madewell jeans (out of stock, similar here), Nike sneakers via DSW, Goody headwrap (similar here)

Summer Bucket List: Take Me Out to the Ball Game #1
I am now officially halfway done with the bucket list! I am so successful at having fun, guys!
I'm behind on the blog a bit, so I haven't written about all 12 things yet, but consider this the next step. Two weeks ago, I went with a bunch of friends to see the Brooklyn Cyclones.
For those of you who are not familiar with the Cyclones, they are a class-A short season farm team for the Mets. So as far as baseball goes... well, they're not the best. In this particular instance, they had more errors than runs. And it wasn't because there was a shut-out.
However, there's something really fun about minor league baseball. First, the tickets are way cheap, and there aren't really any bad seats, so that's cool. Second, because the baseball isn't great, they do all sorts of ridiculous and kitschy things between innings which are just hilarious to keep people entertained. Third, the stadium is really nice in this case, with a view of the Coney Island amusement park and the beach. And finally, you don't really care who wins, so there's none of the stress that fans sometimes feel at Major League games.
When going to a baseball game, it is important to be dressed for the occasion, and for the sun and heat. So baseball caps and comfortable shoes are a must. And meanwhile, I got to wear my super fun Parks and Rec t-shirt! If you don't get the reference, then you should stop reading and go learn about the wonder that is Leslie Knope immediately. No, but really.
And coming soon: my trip to the Staten Island Yankees. So much minor league baseball, so little time.
Have you experienced the fun of minor league baseball? What do you do for summer fun on the weekend?
What I'm wearing: GAP khakis, Look Human Little Sebastian shirt, Chacos sandals, '47 Yankees hat

When the Cyclones first started playing, all of their games would sell out, because it was the first professional baseball in Brooklyn since the Dodgers had left in the 1950s. (Hence the Jackie Robinson and PeeWee Reese statue behind me.) Now, the stadium is much emptier, but it means you can choose to go on an impulse. Other bright side: kosher food! Yes, it's not cheap, but it's not any more expensive than other stadium food, and I love it when I can feel like a normal person and eat at public events.

This is where the mascot flirted with me and I got sort of freaked out. Awks. |
